THE FESTIVAL

Brazilian cinema finds new audiences. Created in 2013, VER CINE was born with the purpose of expanding access to Brazilian cinema in the Baixada Fluminense region. Since then, it has brought together productions from different regions of the country, promoting free screenings, debates, and meetings between filmmakers, students, and the public. Throughout its trajectory, it has consolidated a program marked by the diversity of languages, strengthening audiovisual circulation and audience formation.

A window to Brazilian cinema

Since its inception, VER CINE has presented a pluralistic program to the public, bringing together feature films and short films, documentaries, fiction, animations, and other representative productions of Brazilian audiovisual. The curatorship favors the diversity of languages and brings spectators closer to works that rarely reach the commercial circuit of the Baixada Fluminense.

Five showcases, one single festival

Throughout its journey, VER CINE has expanded its programming with thematic showcases that have diversified the audience's experience and strengthened the festival's curatorial identity.

• NATIONAL PANORAMA: Showcase focused on the exhibition of documentary and fiction short and feature films, as well as music videos produced in Brazil.
• BAIXADA IN FOCUS: Competitive showcase dedicated to promoting audiovisual production from the Baixada Fluminense.
• DIVERCINE: First exhibited at the Festival in 2016. A showcase dedicated to the exhibition of short films that explore themes of sexual diversity.
• AQUARIUS: Non-competitive showcase dedicated to feature films shown in the commercial circuit, but which had a very short theatrical run or never even reached the theaters located in the Baixada Fluminense.
• INTERNATIONAL PANORAMA: Showcase focused on the dissemination of foreign short films. In each edition, the initiative highlights production from a specific country chosen by the public. Russia, France, Italy, and Mexico have already been in the spotlight.
