More than a festival. A cultural education experience. Created in 2006, Baixada Animada was born with the mission to democratize access to animation cinema and develop new audiences through free, decentralized programming focused on highlighting Brazilian and Ibero-American audiovisual production. Over two decades, it has established itself as one of the country's leading initiatives dedicated to the genre, promoting screenings, workshops, debates, and educational activities. More than just presenting films, the festival transforms cinema into a tool for education, inclusion, and cultural development.

The story of a festival that grew alongside its audience

Conceived in 2005 with the goal of promoting independent animation cinema, Baixada Animada held its first edition in January 2006, in the cities of Duque de Caxias and Nilópolis. The recognition gained in the early editions fueled the project's expansion. In 2009, the festival began integrating its programming into Ponto Cine, in Guadalupe, starting a process of continuous growth. Today, consolidated as the only Brazilian festival dedicated exclusively to animation produced in Portuguese and Spanish-speaking countries, Baixada Animada reaches different territories and expands access to animation cinema with every edition.

Throughout its history, Baixada Animada has established itself as a meeting space for films, filmmakers, and the public. Beyond screenings, Baixada Animada promotes encounters between filmmakers, researchers, students, and the public.
